Anyone in Glasgow who has even the most casual interest in electronic music has probably heard of Rustie, and has very likely heard him play at the many clubs, parties and outdoor events that occur in and around the city, dropping his own material which draws influence from a range of sources as far reaching as Drexciya, Timbaland, Dilla, Lory D, Detroit Bass and Ghettotech, as well as the wide world of Grime, Crunk, B-more and all these other genres which have popped up in recent years. In short, pretty much anything that passes Rustie's eardrums is considered, dissected and distilled into his own work, and in doing so he has created a style that is unique and recognisable. There is a distinct difference between someone who knowingly copies other styles or genres, and one who soaks up influences and reinterprets them in their own unique way, and oor boy Rustie definitely falls into the latter category.
This debut release under the Rustie moniker is the product of a hard-working individual who refuses to do things by half, for fear of being labelled derivative. You may think you recognise some of the sounds, or can connect certain elements to certain genres, but you cannot say you have heard a record like this one before, because you haven't. This is 100% original dope shit, and you will know this by the inevitable slew of imitators who have yet to wake up to the sound of the one-man Pollokshields massive.
