The MXL 990 is a no frills microphone, primarily designed as a cardioid vocal microphone although it can be used for instruments it operates well and reproduces a balanced sound. We would recommend using this to mic close-up vocals and will perform impressively when done so. It has a maximum 130dBSPL which is relatively high for the price range and has a six-micron 20mm diaphragm while boasting a 30Hz to 20kHz flat response.
