The humble Sennheiser HD-25.

Beloved by sound-engineers, DJs, musicians and audio-enthusiasts worldwide. It’s probably one of our favourite bits of equipment at Rubadub. They are insanely durable, every part is user-replaceable, they provide almost unparalleled isolation from outside noise and they sound tremendous. I think almost 90% (or more) of Rubadub staff own a pair, which speaks volumes, and if you only ever want to buy one pair of headphones for mixing records, for production, for the daily commute or, well, whatever really, then you need to own a pair of these.

This little polemic was inspired by the fact that my HD-25s are now coming up for their fifteenth year and I thought it would be worth writing a wee tribute as a result.

Pre-Cert Home Entertainment is a label that’s got a good pedigree. When you’ve got Andy Votel and Demdike Stare at the controls then you’re guaranteed a selection of releases that’s going to simultaneously challenge and please listeners. They’ve got stronger and stronger since the 2010 release of the Samhain Slant Azimuth Mix CD and the latest from Andy Votel under his Xian Orphic guise is our favourite yet. It’s a record that manages to combine classic musique concrete, acousmatic music, the sounds of 1970s Kosmische and much more without being wilfully referential. Seriously recommended. Check it here.

One of our favourite selectors and an outstanding producer in his own right, Lerosa, hits Glasgow this weekend for the Guild of Calamitous Intent party.

Check his latest selection for Italian website electronique.it out right here.

The Guild of Calamitous Intent will be manning the controls at the Rubadub Saturday Session before their night. More on that very soon…

In anticipation of the imminent arrival of the repress of DABJ-1201 [after the original press sold out in a day] we asked the artist, Jared Wilson if he would mind putting together a DJ Mix for our blog, he was happy to oblige. Its an absolute corker if we do say ourselves! You can check it out here:

If you would like to see Jared mix it up in the flesh then be sure to head down to La Cheetah on Queen Street, Glasgow on the 22nd of September were he will be helping kick off the new Basement Jams series of parties!

If you don’t already own DABJ-1201 you can preorder a copy of the repress here:

Another essential is the new release on his own 7777 Label, which absolutely kills it too!

Record store day was the usual chaotic, loud and extremely enjoyable affair down at Rubadub this year. We drank some beers, played plenty records, got fined by the polis (well, one of us did) and generally had ourselves a right good time. Big shout to Mateusz at www.mateuszsleczka.com for documenting the whole thing again in pictures. There’s a good chance none of us would remember it otherwise….

Last year’s record store day was killer. We expect this year will be a similar affair. We’ve got tons of exclusives, Rubadub classics, long-lost warehouse finds and a whole lot more coming down for you to get in about. We’ll have extra listening posts set up, Rubadub crew dropping the platters that matter and a very special guest, Joy Orbison, coming down before we all get ourselves down to Numbers at Chambre 69 to round the night off.

Check the FB event here and if you have any questions then just drop us a line on 0141 221 9657 or email aleks@rubadub.co.uk

See you all there!
