There's the effortlessly lazy KDJ house grooves, the seriously banging Detroit ghetto techno, the NJB-infused jazz and funk, and the beautiful Mahogani soul. "LIVEINLA1998" is a version of the rare "JAN" with the Electrifying Mojo's questions to Prince removed, Pitch Black City turn "Sweet Yesterday" into an Amp Fiddler style soul anthem and there's the old school funk of "People". While many press people still don't 'get' Moodymann, he's out there making some of his best and most uncompromising music yet. You may question the motives for his self-imposed media blackout, but you can't argue with the fact that he's picking up thousands of believers through music alone, instead of column inches.
